Depo Container Overview
Depo Container is a general term that is often heard in business applications for logistics services and/or goods transportation services. However, what is the actual meaning of a Container Depot, and what is its function and role in the business application of logistics services and/or goods transportation services?Here's the explanation:
According to the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia No. PM 83 of 2016, Depo Container is a place inside or outside the working environment (DLKr) of a Port which functions for storage, stacking, cleaning/washing, maintenance, repair of containers, loading (stuffing), unloading (stripping), as well as other activities that support the smooth process of handling filled (full) containers and/or empty (empty) containers.The simple explanation is that the Depo Container is an area that is used to store containers temporarily after the containers are unloaded from ships before they are finally distributed according to their destination addresses. Within the Container Depot environment, these containers are not stored haphazardly, but are managed specifically. Container management is usually entrusted to a third party, namely a company outside the port service management which specifically operates in the field of container management.
The function of the Container Depot is very important in business applications for logistics services and/or goods transportation services, especially for the process of sending goods via sea transportation routes/modes. One of the functions of the Container Depot is to prepare containers that will be used by exporters for the needs of the export process of goods according to Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL) standards. By us SBC Indonesia, After Customs clearance, the container is lifted using a heavy equipment called a "Crane" for inspection and categorized as 'damaged' and 'operational'. Damaged containers will be taken to a container maintenance facility to be repaired, thoroughly cleaned and stored. Meanwhile 'operational' containers will be stacked separately so they can be reused.
